City Approves Weekend Market for Riverside Lot
The city council voted on Tuesday to allow a weekend market in the Riverside parking lot, which has stood empty since the bus depot moved in 2023.
The market will run on Saturdays from May through October. Thirty stalls will be offered first to businesses based within the city; any remaining stalls will go to applicants from outside.
Council member Peter Vollmer, who opposed the plan, said the lot should be sold instead. He argued that the city would give up income for six months of the year. The council rejected that argument, noting that the lot has produced no income at all since 2023.
Applications open on March 1. A decision on whether to continue the market beyond October will be made in November.
